through the American Board of Professional Psychology Director, Child Psychology Associates, South Miami, FL. & Jackson Hole, WY Past Coordinator, Pediatric Psychology Services, Baptist Children’s Hospital Dr. Lancelotta is a licensed clinical psychologist who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Miami in 1989 and completed his pre- and post-doctoral training at Newington Children’s Hospital in Newington, CT. Since then, he has held positions and staff appointments at Newington Children's Hospital, and the University of Connecticut's Health Science Center in Farmington, CT. Dr. Lancelotta also served as Senior Psychologist and Coordinator of Clinical Training in Behavioral Medicine at Nicklaus Children's Hospital (formerly: Miami Children's Hospital), as Coordinator of Pediatric Psychology Services at Baptist Children's Hospital and as Co-Director of Behavioral Medicine Training of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Florida International University. Dr. Lancelotta conducts bilingual psychological assessments with children who have Spanish as a primary and/or secondary language and who have various conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety and mood related disorders, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Expressive/Receptive Language Disorders, neurological impairments, and developmental delays. The thrust of Dr. Lancelotta’s clinical work throughout his career has been on the Primary Prevention of Psychopathology in children and youth aimed at identifying and interrupting maladaptive behavioral and emotional patterns that lead to further negative life trajectories. He consults privately with children and their parents, with various school districts, and with parent advocacy groups around issues related to how school performance is impacted by intellectual skills development, academic achievement, bilingualism, learning disabilities, process deficits, and behavioral and emotional functioning, and how they all relate to overall life functioning. He is also the Founder and Director of Rock Climbing Rocks! a weekly therapeutic rock climbing group conducted in conjunction with The Edge Rock Gym of Miami (since 2006) with emphasis on the development of leadership skills, frustration tolerance, coping skills for managing life obstacles, emotional regulation tools, and developing personal goal setting and accountability in children and adolescents. This led to the establishment of the Higher Grounds Teton Adventure Camp (2010 - 2023), a 10-day immersion in nature experience for males ages 13 through 18 and carried out in Jackson Hole, WY with the goals of increasing emotional regulation skills, providing direction for navigating the teenage years, making positive peer connections and socializing outside of electronics, and developing an appreciation for the impact that connecting with nature can have on us all. His group practice is a certified provider of the Spell Read P.A.T. Reading Intervention Program that has been a part of his practice since 2002 and which continues to service struggling readers with the tools necessary for overcoming dyslexia and reading disabilities. Dr. Lancelotta currently is the Founder/Director of Child Psychology Associates, a psychology group practice specializing exclusively in the provision of Child Clinical/Pediatric Psychology services. For over 20 years, he coordinated the Pediatric Psychology Services at Baptist Children’s Hospital of Miami, FL, and was consulting psychologist to the Pedi-Oncology Team at Baptist Children’s Hospital. Dr. Lancelotta is a member of the American Psychological Association, and the Florida Psychological Association. |
